ABSTRACT
Background: The biggest cause of infant death is low birth weight (LBW), which is 35.15%. Handling LBW babies is in principle about maintaining the baby's body temperature to remain stable, one of which is using the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) method.Goals: To determine the knowledge of post partum mothers about Kangaroo Mother Care in premature babies. Methods: The design of this research is a descriptive survey, the sample was taken using an accidental sampling technique that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research respondents were mothers of LBW babies who had received education regarding KMC, totaling 21 respondents. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire whose validity and reliability had been tested using Kuder Richardson (K-R 20). The reliability coefficient was 0.935.Results: The results of the research showed that the age characteristics of the largest sample were in the age range 20 - 35 years, as many as 20 people (95.2%), the characteristics of respondents based on the baby's weight, the majority were babies weighing 2000 - 2500 grams, 15 people (71.4%), Characteristics Based on the majority of respondents, gestational age was less than 37 weeks, there were 11 people (52.4%). Meanwhile, the results of the level of knowledge of respondents showed that 15 respondents (71.4%) had sufficient knowledge regarding KMC.Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, it is hoped that the relevant agencies can modify the education system related to KMC, for example by providing pre and post assessments of maternal knowledge, more structured education and follow-up after the education is given, such as providing leaflets or posters.
